FYI to all who may wish to know .. This obit appeared in todays Foster's ..
certainly not much time to react to be sure as he passed two days ago and
the memorial services are this evening .. John was our longest surviving
member having joined back in 1946 or 1948 I beleive .. he became crippled in
older age with some form of muscular disease that rendered his arms almost
useless yet he continued until about 10 years ago to run his own boat
"Pieces of Eight" .. a very determined, polite, and adept gentleman who was
proud to fly the PYC Burgee .. thought you might wish to use the
mass-mailing e-mail option to get the word out to the membership and BOD ..

PORTSMOUTH - John Russell Welch died Saturday, April 12, 2008.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in Portsmouth, to Julia Ryan Welch and James
Welch.
He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1941 and served in the Coast
Guard in the Philippines during World War II.
He took over Welch Auto Electric from his father in 1947, and ran the
successful business until he retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Portsmouth Yacht Club, a trustee of the Portsmouth
Library and the Newington Library, a member of the Newington Planning Board,
the Newington Dock Master and a member of the Portsmouth Propeller Club.
Through the years, John made many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred Rand Welch. Also surviving him are his
three children: his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Gail Welch; son and
daughter-in-law Jack and Shirley Welch; and daughter and son-in-law Barbara
Welch and John Del Vecchio; and five grandchildren, Amanda Welch, Heather
Abbott, Kate and Christine Del Vecchio and Jennifer Welch.
SERVICES: Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the J.
Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. A
memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the North
Congregational Church Chapel, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth. Friends are
invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Langdon Library,
328 Nimble Hill Road, Newington, NH 03801, or to a charity of one's choice.
