Dear PYC Members,

Happy Holidays! We hope all is going well and that you are having an
enjoyable fall. It was great seeing you around the club, and we
appreciate the interest that many of you expressed in our now published
book, "The Outdoor Classroom". This is a college textbook for courses
in curriculum, curriculum methods, and outdoor education that you might
find interesting. It also can be used as a hiking guide to the
wildlife, ecology and geology of the White Mountains and the New
Hampshire Seacoast, as well as a cross-country skiing, rock climbing,
and forestry guide to woodlands in this region. Adventure learning
has been a lifelong passion of ours, and the inspiration for this book
is the Outdoor Education Program I directed for many years at the Oyster
River Middle School in Durham and the current significance it has for
today's outdoor education activities.

This book includes a philosophical foundation, a myriad of proven
curriculum activities that involve a gender equitable approach,
orientation activities that have been effectively used with students,
parents, and expedition leaders, and a sampling of evaluation responses
from the students, interns, professors, parents, and administrators who
participated. We wish I could just give you a copy of the book, but
we only received three from the publisher, and they had to go to people
who helped us with the book.

We would love to autograph it for you if you would like.
You are cordially invited to a book signing at the UNH Alumni Center at
the corner of Edgewood Road and Strafford Avenue (between the New
England Center and the Whittemore Center) on December 20 and 21 from
12:00 to 5 p.m., at Calef's Country Store at the corner of Routes 125
and 9 on Saturday, December 22 from 11 to 3, and at the UNH Barnes and
Noble Bookstore on Saturday, February 9 from 11 to 1. There is free
parking at each of these locations. The UNH Barnes and Noble Bookstore
has free parking on that Saturday, February 9, below the Bookstore in
Lot C across from the Durham Shopping Center on Mill Road. Drop by if
you get a chance, and don't feel like you have to buy a book. Just come
and say, "Hello.". It would be great to see you there. RSVP.

.

Sincerely,

Jim and Johanne Jelmberg
