Hi Soni;
I think it was a good referendum on whether the club members care if we make money or not. It is good to test the waters….
Thank you for being flexible. Christina has your article for the newsletter which you should modify for her to include the VC update.
This will go out this week so we can make it clear that events will be “business as usual” for this season. I will be writing my piece as soon as we get all the contributions.
Best of luck with the event tonight.
Wish I was there, but also need to see the grands…
Whit

Dear Board members it seems like the majority does not want to see a change in volunteers getting a complimentary meal. I hope we can keep this to the food prep people only.
Thanks so much
Soni
I will let Christina know

Hey Whit, thanks for sending this out. I was getting ready to poll my team today to seek their feedback regarding what I thought was the new club position to charge workers for club dinners? What am I missing? I raised this when Soni mentioned it at the meeting and she said that the club can’t afford to have this and that we are a volunteer organization. I was a bit miffed as it was the first I’d heard of it.
I’ve been working on the pulled pork team for 13 years and leading it for the past five years or so since George Kinser departed. As I mentioned at the Board meeting team members have been with the club for a long time and they all do a great job. Last year we got a newbie couple on our team and they worked out great.
Aside from that we made several hundred dollars on the event and that was before several members of the team including Ellen and I donated the items we made and did not seek reimbursement.
I think we need to make this clear right away and I’m really glad that I got this email before I sent out my notice to the team.
Please advise what I was missing from the Board meeting the other night since Soni was adamant about team members paying and now you are saying that is not the case.
We need to get this straightened out right away. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Greetings;
Just to let you know, the word is starting spread on the statements made in the meeting Thursday.
See note below.
“I got a call from someone who is working one of my events who was told that even though they’re spending the day in the Kitchen they have to pay for the event. This has never been the case, and I told them they don’t have to pay if they work at an event. Obviously no one is going to volunteer to work if they also have to pay.”
