[Board] Dockwa

I talked again to the Dockwa rep and told him that we would have to cancel. He told me two things. First, Dockwa will continue with our present agreement through September so we will continue to get reservations from them for the rest of the summer at the same per transaction rate. Second, they have received a number of responses like ours from marinas that do not do enough business to warrant the expense so they are considering having another level of fees that would accommodate small marinas. He will call again at the end of the summer.

Thank you,

Doyle

Doyle,

Thank you for the information. The Flag Officers concur that we should cancel our dockwa subscription for this year and reevaluate renewing for the 2021 season.

We'll see how mooring rentals go the next few months.

Best,

Pat

I talked with a representative from Dockwa. They are changing their pricing model. They now want to charge a $199 setup fee and then $99 per month paid up front for the whole year ($1,188 + $199). The fact that we do not rent moorings from October until May did not seem to matter.

Up until now, they have been charging us about $1.23 per mooring rental. They arranged 106 mooring rentals for us last year (about ΒΌ of all rentals) with total fees of about $130, so they are asking for more than 10 times in fees this year than last.

Personally, I think going from $1.23 per rental to about $13 makes their services, in a word, way overpriced. I also think most boaters who used Dockwa could probably have found us and paid us directly anyway. The breakeven would be that if more than about 5 out of 8 of the boaters that used Dockwa came to us directly, Dockwa charges would be more than they are worth. I am also wondering if we will get as many mooring rentals this year as we did last considering the difficulty of going ashore while cruising, which makes Dockwa services even less valuable.

I told the Dockwa rep that I thought they were shooting themselves in the foot but I would get back to him. This is a BOD decision, not a Treasurer decision, so please confer and let me know if you want to pay Dockwa or politely decline.

Thank you,

Doyle
