Remember, the way the amendment is written, the member may get a slip not owning a boat and then put it in.  The only real difference is the time parameter to do it.

I am in the same "Boat" as Scott.  I don't see the problem with a Member waiting to get a slip to then buy a boat.  My family actually did this exact thing, waited until we got a slip and then purchased the boat that would fit in the slip.

Good points as always.
The crux of this is that people want to select a slip not owning a boat, and they have over a year to put one in it.  It was felt that members with a boat ready to use it is more appropriate.  Trust me, we can do nothing and leave it as is.  The request was for some wording to possibly tighten up the present policy.

Regarding what is outlined in the document.. as Glenn alluded to, I’d feel that July 1st is very aggressive to consider a slip “vacant”. As much as many would like nothing more than to have their boats in as early as possible, there are unfortunately times when life doesn’t permit a boat taking priority. 
As someone with a new young child and a job that goes through spurts of very heavy workloads and/or travel requirements I worry about adding to that a hard deadline at the beginning of the summer before I would lose a slip. 
Additionally, how, for example, does this take into account major work that may need to be done on a boat?
Please let me know if there were pertinent areas of discussion during the meeting that may assist in addressing my thoughts above!

Attached is a DRAFT amendment to the H&D Rules concerning slips.  At the last meeting it was felt that the section concerning slip occupancy should be amended to adjust slip occupancy requirements.
This draft may be too harsh, but it reflects a direction that the BOD wanted to go.  Please provide input if you wish, and I can change as necessary.
