[Board-2018] Fwd: Eric Eberhart

At the Wentworth Marina, a locked gate blocks access to each dock. Each boat owner with a slip is given two or three non-duplicable keys. No matter who you are, if you show up without a key and the owner isn’t there, you don’t get in. Other boat owners coming and going generally do not let strangers slip through because of theft and other issues. The marina by the shipyard has even tighter (much tighter!) security. We are not being unreasonable.

I also agree with most everyone. If we let him do this, who knows what could come up next. I do think putting an application in his hand is advisable….at least then he’ll know we want him as a member but there are rules.

I agree with all that has been said but I do feel that the fact is he is just getting to his dads boat and not using the club otherwise. Do they have a dinghy? Can he get himself to the boat via his own dinghy?
Just putting myself in this situation (hypothetically) and wondering how I would view it.

I'm in agreement with what I sense to be the feeling of the previous emails on this topic. While I do feel for the situation, this would set a bad precedent moving forward and I don’t see how a decision like this could be justified. I am of the belief that we can’t make an exception for a non-member to use the club and/or docks for the summer for a fee, regardless of the situation.

I don’t think the launch is an issue, Bob has a slip. It might be hard trying to justify this exception for club usage.

Good afternoon,
Thank you for sending along this message. Even though I also sympathize, It is a slippery slope as Dan mentioned. All of the required insurance & licensure issues Art identified should be addressed immediately.
Eric should be invited to join and/or have a member with him. He could apply to be a member & have his Dad pay the fee & then he can use the launch.
Looking forward to the Parade of Sails tomorrow.

While I sympathize with Bob, this is a slippery slope. I think that the facilities are for the use of members only, and if his son wants to use his boat, he needs to become a member. Somewhat harsh, but if we let this slip, where will the line be drawn.
