Each boat owner with a slip is given two or three non-duplicable keys. No matter who you are, if you show up without a key and the owner isn’t there, you don’t get in. Other boat owners coming and going generally do not let strangers slip through because of theft and other issues. The marina by the shipyard has even tighter (much tighter!) security. We are not being unreasonable. As stated in our Constitution,Article XI – Membership, Section 4., “Active Membership includes individuals or families. Family is defined as two individuals living at the same address in a marriage or marital-type relationship." Accordingly, as Capt. Eberhart is married and lives with his wife at the same address he enjoys a family membership. However, neither our Constitution or By-Laws defines children of a family membership as Members. As far as I am aware, Capt. Eberhart has 3 children, two of which are living at the home of Capt. Eberhart and his wife. One of those children (Eric Eberhart) is approximately 28 years old and the other of the two children is 23/24 years old. If we now decide that the our definition of "Family" includes either or both Capt. Eberhart's 2 children that are living at home, then we are opening up the door to include " any child living at home with his/her parents regardless of the age of the child". I have a son living at home with my wife and I and he is 59 years old. As this issue has ramifications that PYC has never addressed in the past, we should not, in this matter, create a new category membership without a great deal of discussion. Consequently, I am not in favor of Capt. Eberhart's request.
