[Board-2018] Flag Issue - UP Date 6/29/18

Hi All,

 

Spoke to Pam Anderson, owner The High Flying Flag Company. Review our issue
of two (2) bolts extending from the main pole catching the flag and ripping
it.

 

She looked up the order, called the manufacture of the flag pole company to
confirm the size of the flags we should be flying. Our pole is designed to
fly only 3x5 flags.  The gaff on our pole is 4'6" designed for a 3x5 ensign.
We are flying a 4x6 ensign.  If we flew the prescribed 3x5 ensign we would
not be having this problem.

 

I don't know what additional stress, is being exerted on the pole by flying
a larger ensign.

 

We discussed flying a 4x6 ensign: Action Items:

.         Check if a gaff designed to fly 4x6 ensigns is available for our
pole.  Pam will call the pole manufacture the week of July 9th. They will be
shut down most of next week on vacation.

.         Her husband is willing to come over and cut the bolts, if he can
get help lowering and raising the pole.  If the bolts are cut acorn nuts
should be added to the treads.

 

My recommendation is hold off taking any actions until the week of July 8th
to review our course of action.

To all involved with the flag catching on the poll and ripping.  I spoke to
Kati @ The High Flying Flag Company, Greenland.   The owner will call me
tomorrow with a resolution.
