It’s my understanding the majority of service dogs are professionally trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability including a physical, sensory, psychiatric or other mental disabilities. These service animals have certificates / paper work recognized by the ADA. The certificates are from the organization doing the training.

I understand this is a gray area and the State of NH has left its statue RSA 167-D to interpretation.

For what it’s worth Emotional support animals are not service dogs under the ADA.

Again would like to keep this simple and add a statement to the H&D rules “Except for Service Dogs”

Thanks,

Wes

While I agree that service dogs should be admitted (I.e. Guide dogs for the blind) unfortunately there is no agency that “certifies” service dogs, so there may be a problem determining which dogs are legitimate and which are not. The airlines are currently struggling with this very issue.

Jeremy,

House and Dock club rules # 9 states dogs are not allowed in the club house, but allow on club property, on a leash etc. The rule goes on NH Law prohibits dogs where food is prepared and served.

NH RSA 167-D “It’s lawful for any service animal to accompany his or her handler or trainer into any public facility, housing accommodations, or place of public accommodation to which to which the general public is invited, subject only to the conditions and limitations .

We are a private club – As Rear Commodore I recommend to add verbiage to Club House Rules Section 1 section 9: Allowing certified / registered service animals in the club house or add wording service dogs are exempt.

Board,

Is there a club policy on sevice dogs? I will be having guests for dinner who are amputees and have a service dog. Hoping the weather is nice and can eat outside and this is a non issue.

Jeremy
