[Board-2018] Steward Position

Good evening all,

I appreciate being able to read all of these comments at once having been
away from my email today.
Thank you for the job descriptions, Roy (and Pat). The one main complaint I
have heard from members about the staff is that they are not appropriately
supervised or directed to complete tasks around the Club.
I think Freida is lovely and would probably serve us well as the Steward.
Has she had supervisory responsibility and is that one of her strengths?
Also, either Freida is ready, willing and able to be the Steward with
minimal training (general consensus) or she needs lots of training on the
details of running the clubhouse, staff payroll and supervision. etc
(Jerry).

Jerry told me earlier this week that Freida has to start at the beginning
of the process to get her launch license because it has been expired for 5
years.
I am not concerned that staff (Freida) are not able to drive the launch but
what level of liability does the Club have if there is any kind of
incident? Does our insurance policy cover an unlicensed launch driver?

Again, I support Glenn/Wes having direct conversations with the staff and
settling the terms of employment. It seems inappropriate that Jerry is
'negotiating' for the rest of the staff and positioning himself for a
subordinate job in 2019.

In my experience, when an organization likes how things are being run and
want it to continue in the same direction, new hires are from within. If
the organization wants or sees an opportunity for change/improvement, new
hires are from outside the current staff. Given this point of view, it
seems (with a few tweaks) the BOD and members are happy with the way things
are being done at PYC. Hiring Freida might send that message and stabilize
some of the unrest in the staff.

Hoping to see most of you tomorrow at docks-in.
Best,
Pat
