[Board-2018] Steward Position

I have a couple of questions regarding Frieda and what the plan will be for option 2:
1. How many hours will she be expecting to work in a week?
* Will this effect our current proposed 2018 payroll budget?
2. What will be her job description?
* Is she a dockhand outside the pay steps?
* Is it a new special job description?
3. What will she be doing during those hours?
* She doesn't have a launch drivers license, yet
* Will she be shadowing Jerry all the time or just part of the time?
* Will she be covering all/some of the events assisting Jerry?
* Which could "reduce" how many we need at an event
* Will she be managing some of the events as part of her training?
* Will she be covering as a bartender, dock hand and maybe a Dockmaster when Mike isn't around?
4. Will we be able to reduce how many other staff we hire because she will be around?
5. If she is offered the job and accepts, when will she be getting the launch drivers license?
* We have been asking this question since late last summer!
* Can she just renew or does she need to get recertified?
* And who pays for this?
6. Regarding offering the position as of Nov 1
* Does this mean we wait until Nov 1 to offer her the position or are we offering her the position now but it is effective Nov 1?
Also note:
If Frieda is hired as the Steward, Jerry would like to be a dock hand/launch driver and continue working part time.
We have a draft of the Job descriptions that we will be sending out shortly.
Roy

This is better than I hoped for.....great feedback on an important issue. We can do remote meetings (only kidding). All comments are on point and this is why we have a BOD and not a dictator.
No steward decisions have been made other than to form the search committee. The only reason I sent info out is that I did not want the BOD to be told about the new decision made by Jerry 2 or 3 months from now. Better to deal with it at the present time. Again, my attachment was ONLY to provide new information and to throw out some issues that we may want to think about.
Thanks again and I appreciate all that we are doing,
Glenn

I agree Glenn, we are not reactionary, and certainly should not be offended by Jerry's kind offer (not an ultimatum) to stay on to assist in training someone entirely new the following year. It is my understanding no offers have been made to Frieda or Mike as yet so we really don't know if they will be accepting, demanding or otherwise. Frankly, I think the inmates are restless at this point not knowing where they stand. And with regard to Frieda amassing an enormous paycheck, since we have potentially so many dockhands (at lower rates of pay), simply reduce the time Frieda spends on the dock by the amount of training time she needs (probably very little; what's the big deal?). Let's make an offer to these people and then see whether they are boxing us into a corner (which I doubt; I think they feel they have a pretty good deal at the club), or let them walk.

Thanks so far for the comments. I agree that it appears that the "inmates are running the asylum", but at the end of the day the BOD has the final word. This year has been interesting so far, in that we have had significant personnel changes to deal with, and we are also trying to get the salary picture into a framework that will benefit the club in the future. In some respects we may be behind the power curve, but this most recent revelation was not on the horizon, and the plan that was voted on was certainly accomplished in a timely manner to replace the steward.
As far as reactionary decision making, the only decision that fits into that category is one that I made, not the board, so I disagree that the BOD has been reactionary. Plus, a lot of the issues that we are dealing with have been pushed down the road in the past, and I thank this BOD for stepping up and taking action.
Enough of my banter. I will await further feedback, and this issue will be on the next meeting agenda. We still have time for either plan to play out.
Thanks again,
Glenn

Good Morning,
Please read the attachment and give me your input. Since we voted on the steward replacement plan, the picture has changed a bit.
Thanks for your time and effort.
