This isn't a question of money! As we all know, the carpet in the dining area of the Clubhouse is scheduled to be replaced next season. We all agreed it makes sense to do the dining area carpet and the entrance carpet at the same time with the same carpet so as to present a continuous effect!
While I understand that great work has been done in the two bathrooms and the entrance way, leaving the entrance carpet as is does not minimize that accomplishment! Obviously, I am against replacing the entrance way carpet this year!

That is a generous offer and I agree that it is the first thing you see and it creates a statement!  I did not see the samples but agree that it needs to be elegant and not commercial.
As for the $680... that really is a very reasonable price to complete the project.  
To save a few dollars maybe Mike could pull up the carpet and save on some prep work.  I have a hard time with a few people putting in their own money to get this project completed.

As a follow up to our conversation, I am sending this email to see if it might  be possible to install the  carpet in the front entry hall this year, rather than wait til next year and do the hall and main room together.
 
I do want to  say that we appreciate that the Board is being careful with the Club’s money, and holding off on some expenditures, especially light of some unexpected expenses we’ve incurred because of this winter’s storms.  The approach the  Board is taking is to  be commended. 
 
Having said that, we are proposing that a small group of Club members chip in and cover half of the  cost of doing the front hall carpet now.  (As I understand it, the cost of carpet and installation for the front hall is $680, so we are proposing to pay $340 of that, if the front hall carpet can be done this year.)
 
Our reason for wanting to do this now is to complete the upgrade of the front hall area, since there has been so much improvement already.  The new paint, fixtures, art, curtains, coat rack, etc represent an extraordinary amount of work by Mary Pat and Jay Gibson.  Mary Pat really had a vision for how nice the area could look, and has spent so so many hours to give us all something to enjoy.  To  have this lovely fresh space, and the old carpet, seems like leaving a big effort incomplete.
 
So, a few of the members hoped that by offering to defray half the cost we might be able to get the new carpet in the front hall now.  Hopefully, the savings would be attractive to the  Board, and the membership could enjoy the full benefit of all the  work that  has been done sooner rather than later. 
 
Hope this is something the Board is open to, and thank you, Laurie, for conveying the request..

I appreciate the work that Mary Pat & Jay have put in to refreshing the entry & bathrooms. I agree with Art & would add my voice to others that the carpet needs to have an ‘elegant’ presentation & unite the entrance with the dining/bar area. Also, I have a conservative approach & caution against allowing individual members to take on or pay for ‘pet projects’. Major projects & expenditures (like carpet replacement with $10,000 estimated) need to be approved by BOD.
I hope we can put this item on hold for awhile.

I agree with Pat and Art.  I think we have to be careful about how we take on these projects.   Everyone wants the club to be beautiful and offer lots of amenities, but no one wants the dues to go up.
