Hi All,
The document looks great - glad we were able to come to the "salary band"
agreements!
As far as $20 for the dockmaster for this season, I will add my thoughts:
We spent a good deal of time discussing the idea of a max on these ranges -
to put this position at the $20 "band max" after (correct me if i'm wrong)
2 full seasons, seems a bit against the discussion we had on Thursday. In
addition, using last years numbers, this represents a *33%* ($15 ->
$20/hour) raise and over $*5,000 *(~1,050 hours worked last season) in
increased payroll on this position alone. I will leave the ultimate
negotiation in the hands of the proper officers, but making this change due
to an ultimatum and offering 100% of what was demanded (*and it is a demand
when you state if you don't get it you're leaving!*) sets a bad precedent
in my view. What position are we in if the same thing happens next April
and he asks for $25 or he's leaving?
While I am at the club a fair amount during the season, I will defer to
others to speak to the merits of an increase on the grounds of performance,
but from a financial standpoint anyone that warrants a 33% raise should
decidedly stand far over and above any expectations that could possibly
have been placed on them. I am not opposed to an increase, but one of this
magnitude does not sit well with me from a financial standpoint, if nothing
else.
As we all know, there has been much discussion of late being fiscally
responsible when it comes to staffing. I feel that a 33% raise to the point
of max out the newly created "band" flies in the face of all our
conversations.
I look forward to the additional thoughts of the board!
