Dan,Thanks.  So the swivel would rest on top of the flat area above the protective waist of the bouy and the two pennants would attach to the ring or shackle on the swivel. Single points of failure would be attachment hardware to boat, swivel, chain and mooring attachment, which are inspectable. If the above is correct, it looks like a good system. I agree with Nanc, it would be nice to test it over the winter.

   The chain comes up thru a pipe in the center of the buoy and attaches to a swivel.   The pennants attach to the swivel.    I’m attaching a picture of a different buoy (it’s a ball instead of a float) which shows the two types of systems.

This looks like a good idea. 

 

Being a visual person, does anyone have pix of the fully rigged mooring and the section from just below the waterline to the boat? 

Trying to visualize double pennants and swivel locations.  Along with how they connect to the chain.

The reasons to move to these floats from the large balls are

1- Allow for the use of double pennants (which would have prevented the
Osprey accident last year)
2- Move the swivel to the top of the chain and out of the water,
preventing potential of the pennant against the swivel if it jams (which may
have been the cause of the osprey accident)
3- Move the pennants out of the water to eliminate growth and prevent
them from being run over (which happened a couple of times last year)
